THE POWER OF INTENTION
Four years ago, I was tasked with putting together an orientation video for our regional distribution center in Texas. What started as one project became the spark that evolved into a flood of creativity and unique media. Everything from process training videos, safety awareness campaigns, retailer feedback features, internal communications pieces, event promos, and even an episodic safety series featuring a team of superheroes dedicated to celebrating the everyday heroes of safety.
It extended well beyond the walls of our home center and went national; being shared and utilized across the entire network. It took me to many locations I had never been before and would not have been there by any other means. It evolved into more than just digital media and became graphic design projects and event planning services.
None of it began with a formal creative department. There was no grand strategy session, no special title, and no waiting around for permission. There was simply a need, an opportunity, and a belief that the right message — delivered in the right way — could make a real impact.
I’m so thankful that there were many who supported my efforts along the way, seeing the value in what I was creating and providing encouragement and assistance in whatever ways they could. Many of these projects were developed outside of normal working hours, not because anyone required it, but because I cared about the result. I wanted to create tools that were useful, engaging, and memorable. Tools that helped our people understand processes, feel connected, take safety seriously, and see the value in the work happening around them every day. That kind of work has shown me where I’m at my best:
Taking scattered ideas and turning them into something clear.
Taking routine information and making it engaging.
Taking operational challenges and finding creative ways to communicate, train, and improve.
I’m increasingly drawn to roles where communication, training, creative problem-solving, and employee engagement intersect. Because when people understand the “why,” the “how” becomes a lot easier.
This highlight reel is a look back at some of that work. More than anything, it’s a reminder that creativity does not always wait for ideal conditions. Sometimes it starts with simply saying, “I can help with that,” and then finding a way to utilize your passions and skills to make meaningful improvements. I’m proud of the work, proud of the growth, and grateful for every project that pushed me to learn something new. Here’s to creating value wherever there’s a chance to do so — not waiting around for some directive. Because you might be the solution that’s needed at this very moment and the world is waiting for you to just realize it and take the first step.
